Drew Goddard to Write, Direct, Showrun Marvel’s DAREDEVIL Netflix Series

It makes sense that the man who scared us silly and skewered horror tropes in The Cabin in the Woods would be the one to tackle the Man Without Fear. As previously reported, Netflix ordered four different television series based on Marvel characters – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist – to culminate in a Defenders mini-series. The Wrap broke the news and Marvel has officially confirmed that Goddard (Lost, Alias) will write and direct the pilot for the Daredevil series and will serve as executive producer and showrunner for the entirety of its 13-episode run in 2015. Here’s what Marvel had to say on the matter:

Marvel.com brought you the first news of the historic team-up between Marvel Television and Netflix, and now we’re proud to officially announce that award-winning writer/director Drew Goddard (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Lost, Cloverfield, Cabin in the Woods, World War Z) will join Marvel’s Daredevil! Goddard will write and direct the Daredevil first episode, setting the tone and look for the show, while also serving as series Showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

Goddard has quickly become one of the go-to guys for genre work in recent years, and for good reason. He was one of the people called in to help rewrite World War Z, worked on Lost, Buffy, and Angel, he wrote Robopocalypse for Steven Spielberg, and penned Cloverfield. And considering he co-wrote The Cabin in the Woods with Avengers impresario Joss Whedon, he’s got some powerful people in his corner. It also helps that Goddard has been jonesing to work with Marvel properties for quite some time. An interview with Collider shows why Daredevil is the perfect fit.

“You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up. Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.’ That was what I loved and so it’s the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it.”

And we would love you to do it, too, Drew. The Daredevil Netflix Original Series will be released at some point in 2015, along with practically every other massive geek-related franchise.
