DRAGON AGE: MAGEKILLER Coming This December from Greg Rucka & Dark Horse Comics

It was announced in a press release today that Dark Horse Comics will be releasing a tie-in comic series of BioWare’s critically acclaimed roleplaying game series Dragon Age– namely their latest installment Dragon Age: Inquisition. The book, called Dragon Age: Magekiller, will be helmed by acclaimed comic writer and crime fiction author Greg Rucka, and Dark Horse artist Carmen Carnero. It will mark the first collaboration of the two– who both made their marks through the issues of various DC and Marvel comics properties– and marks Rucka’s second book with the company, alongside his ongoing Veil series. In an interview with Polygon, Rucka discussed what drew him to the project, and especially, to the world of Dragon Age.

“I think the effort that Bioware has consistently put into every on of their roleplaying games …[it] is really stunning. I know with Dragon Age in particular, we’re talking about a fantasy setting that is probably one of the most fully and beautifully realized examples of world building that we’ve seen.”

Magekiller will be a new adventure in the world of Thedes, running along side the events of Inquisition, that introduces two new characters. Marius is a Tevinter Magehunter working as mercenary partners with his handler Tessa Forsythia, roaming the lands of Thedes and killing blood mages that use their powers to hurt others.  Things soon take a turn for the deadly when the two are hired by a powerful patron, and tasked with a job that may well be their last. Rucka says the idea behind Marius came from a suggestion to designer Mike Laidlaw by former Dragon Age head writer David Gaider to create a “Tavinter Boba Fett.” Those three words, along with the creative team attached, are more than enough to convince me to read this book.

Dragon Age: Magekiller will be on shelves December 16th, 2015. Checkout the cover for issue #1, and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below.
