DOWNTON ABBEY Trailer Heralds Final Season US Premiere January 3rd

Earlier in the summer, Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes told Variety, “I’ve lived with these people for seven years now. They’ve taken me and all of us to the top of the mountain.” And oh, what a mountain it has been. The costumes, the drama, the scandal, the hairstyles, and Dame Maggie Smith! Above, you can catch the first minute-long teaser trailer for the upcoming sixth and final season of the beloved British drama. I’m going to tell you right now, you need a tissue in hand, and maybe a cup of tea on the sideboard.

Go ahead. I can wait while you watch it.

From moments grand, inspiring, and poignant like the numerous strolls through the grounds and rooms of Downton Abbey itself…

To the moments so small of scale that your breath catches at their sweet intimacy…

The producers, crew, actors, and everyone involved with the acclaimed series appears to be ready for an emotional sendoff in the coming months. The trailer features all the fan favorites and includes clips and bits that will be sure to move us to tears even more in context than they do outside of it. Over it all, a moving rendition of “Time to Say Goodbye” plays as the Crawleys and their staff continue in a swiftly changing world they’re not sure they’re ready to face.

Downton Abbey returns to UK televisions on September 20th. PBS will begin airing the final season in the US on January 3rd, 2016. That means we have exactly four months and four days to get all caught up on any episodes we’ve missed of the previous five seasons. You will need to be prepared.

How much are you going to cry? How much have you cried already? Let us know in the comments below!
