DOWNTON ABBEY Season Five Trailer Is Here

When last we saw the denizens of Downton Abbey, they had only begun to recover from all the tragedy and war of the past four seasons. But things are never quiet for too long at the ol’ Abbey, and all kinds of drama is about to ensue for the upstairs and downstairs residents of the old English castle. Entertainment Weekly has released an exclusive trailer for the new season, showing fans everywhere that all the melodrama isn’t set to peter out anytime soon.

At the end of last season, it seemed like Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) was finally able to move on and choose another husband, but she’s got options and she knows it (I’m Team Gillingham, by the way). Meanwhile, Tom Branson (Allen Leech) continues to feel shut out from his aristocratic in-laws, and Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) has a secret baby living in the village that only she knows is really hers. Thomas (Rob James Collier) continues to be a completely horrible person who shows flashes of redemption long enough for us to hold out hope that maybe he’s not all bad, but then we always end up disappointed. Lastly, Carson (Jim Carter) has had enough of everyone’s tom-foolery and wishes they would all just get back to work already. But that’s every episode of every season.

The fifth season of Downton Abbey will premiere as part of PBS’ Masterpiece Theater on January 4th of next year, but in the meantime you can catch this trailer, which shows the Abbey on fire, Thomas harassing poor Miss Baxter, and Lady Mary looking to something considered to be very scandalous for 1920’s society.  [Watch the full trailer at the source.]

Why would anyone wait until January to watch this show when it’s already available online at ITV? It’s the flippin’ 21st Century, not the Age of Rabbit Ears!
