Last month, Bethesda officially dropped the release date for id Software’s upcoming DOOM reboot, along with a new campaign trailer. While May 13 is still a few months away, folks who purchased MachineGames’ Wolfenstein: The New Order will be able to get their hands on the game’s multiplayer later this month. While we already knew this was coming (I redeemed my beta code nearly two years ago), we didn’t know when until now. Bethesda took to the web to reveal that the closed beta will be kicking off on March 31, and concluding on April 3.
Additionally, the developer shared a brand new trailer to showcase the game’s multiplayer, along with the description/warning that reads: “DOOMâs multiplayer is not for the faint of heart. Itâs bloody. Itâs brutal. And it’s VERY FAST.” For a taste of what’s to come in the beta, check out the video at the top of the page!
I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely got a Quake vibe after watching that. As the developer promised, the gameplay looks fast-paced and chaotic. Those eligible for the closed beta will be able to try out two different modes, Team Deathmatch and Warpath, on two different maps, Heatwave and Infernal. I’m particularly interested in Warpath, as using a rune to transform into a powerful demon is too badass for words.
Pre-orders for the game have already gone live. If you’re planning on picking up the game on the Xbox One, pre-ordering for that system will also grant you digital BC downloads for Doom and Doom IIâsimilar to what was done with Fallout 4, Rainbow Six-Siege, and Dark Souls 3.
