Donald Glover Talks Joining STAR WARS as Lando Calrissian, and More Movie News

Our favorite intergalactic smoothie is back in the limelight! Yes, dashing Donald Glover will co-star in Lucasfilm’s Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film as Lando Calrissian. In today’s Movie Morsels, we’ve got a look at Glover’s first video interview since the news broke. Plus, a video with Chris Hemsworth from the set of Thor: Ragnarok, a new poster for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and oh so much more for you wonderful morselers…

Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film

Yee-haw! Fan-favorite actor-comedian Donald Glover’s casting as charming rogue Lando Calrissian just might be the most perfect casting within the Star Wars universe since the days of George Lucas’ Original Trilogy. As a lifelong fan of that universe, of course, Glover couldn’t be happier about getting the part. His delight is clearly visible in the first interview he’s given since he won the role, on The Ellen Show. You can check out the interview below, in which he adorably describes his parents’ reaction to him following in the footsteps on one of their favorite actors, Billy Dee Williams…

Thor: Ragnarok

Great Odin’s Raven! As excited as I am for Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I’m actually most excited about, of all things, the next Thor sequel. But with a cast that includes Idris Elba, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Tom Hiddleston, how could one not be excited? Besides, director Taika Watiti knows how to entertain a movie audience as well as any young filmmaker today can. (If you haven’t seen Hunt for the Wilderpeople, do so immediately!) Now that Ragnarok‘s production has finally wrapped, Watiti and stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson (complete with the makeup she wears for the role of the Valkyrie) have recorded a most special video from the film’s set. Enjoy!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

The folks at IMAX have blessed us with plenty of movie posters that are almost as cool as seeing a film on one of their ginormous theater screens. And while the IMAX poster for the first Harry Potter spinoff film isn’t quite as imaginative as some of the company’s past offerings, I think you might find it still does the job of getting us excited for the first screen adventure of Mr. Newton Artemis Fido Scamander, O.M. (Second Class), Magizoologist of the Ministry of Magic, in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Ocean’s Eight

Wanna peek at the first member of the team of professional cons that Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett are putting together in Ocean’s Eight? Then check out a very blonde Helena Bonham Carter below! In addition to the English Oscar nominee, the latest set pics from the film also offer a glimpse of Anne Hathaway’s character, who appears to be… Anne Hathaway?! She appears in an ad atop a cab that her castmates are riding in, so she looks to be some sort of model or actress within the world of the film, leading some to speculate that her character could function outside the movie’s titular band of criminals. Could Hathaway, therefore, wind up being the Julia Roberts or Andy Garcia of Ocean’s Eight? Hmmm…

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

Finally today, we have the trailer for Ang Lee’s latest, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. The film’s based on the novel by Ben Fountain about an Iraq War vet dealing with the loss of his sergeant in the midst of a nationwide promotional tour that culminates in a Thanksgiving Day football game halftime show. Arriving in theaters next month, the film got mixed reviews upon its premiere at the New York Film Festival. But it’s hard to tell how many of those reviews were the result of the reportedly headache-inducing 120 frames per second in which it was shot and projected (in 3D at 4K HD resolution). For those keeping count, that’s more than twice the frame rate of The Hobbit, and Lee’s film is a drama!
