Itâs been nearly two years since word broke that a seventh film in the Childâs Play/Chucky series was on the way, and almost a year since Don Mancini confirmed that heâs writing the script for Chucky 7. But now thereâs some hope that more tangible news about Chucky 7 is finally on the horizon.
On twitter, Mancini wrote, âAll Good Things Come To Those Who Wait #CHUCKY7 #ComingSoonish.” Mancini also shared an impressive piece of Chucky fan artwork by Matt Ryan Tobin:
Mancini created Chucky for the first Childâs Play film in 1988, which featured Brad Dourif as Charles Lee Ray, a serial killer who used a Voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll called Chucky. As a living doll, Chucky continued his killing spree while attempting to find a way to transfer his soul back into a human body.
Childâs Play 2 came out in 1990, and it was followed by Childâs Play 3 in 1991. After a seven-year hiatus, the franchise returned in 1998 with Bride of Chucky, which introduced Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany, the former girlfriend of Charles Lee Ray who also becomes trapped in the body of a living doll. Mancini took over as the director for Seed of Chucky in 2004, as Chucky and Tiffanyâs spawn Glen was introduced into the series.
In 2013, the direct-to-video Curse of Chucky was also directed by Mancini, and it featured some surprising callbacks to the earlier films, including the return of Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay from the first two Childâs Play movies and a cameo appearance by Tilly as Tiffany.
There are also some loose ends from Curse of Chucky, particularly the fate of Chuckyâs latest victim, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) and the apparent demise of Chucky himself. But thatâs never stopped Chucky before! Brad Dourif is already set to reprise his role as the voice of Chucky for Chucky 7.
