There’s nothing sadder than a stray animal, fending for itself on the streets of some metropolitan area. Maybe they’re malnourished, maybe they’re dirty or hurt, but they certainly need someone to care about them. This isn’t a PSA for the Humane Society, though, because one new movie supposes if the stray dogs in one Hungarian town decided they’d had enough with being kicked to the curb, they would revolt and decide it was their turn to run the show. The movie is the Cannes film festival favorite White God. (Yes, it’s God not Dog.) Have a look at the insanity that comes from dogs not giving a fudge.

They don’t need nobody! Any movie that shows us dozens of dogs running down empty streets or chasing people on bicycles is the kind of movie I want to see. The imagery is not dissimilar to a zombie movie, but far more terrifying because A) these are real animals and not people in makeup and 2) because dogs should be friends not foe. I mean, if this doesn’t teach us to heed to words of Sarah MacLachlan, then nothing will.

The film was directed by Kornél Mundruczó and premiered to rave reviews at Cannes where the twin dog actors who play the protagonist Hagen (named Luke and Body) were awarded the Palm Dog at the event. Congratulations to both of them. The movie will premiere here in the United States on March 27th, 2015.
