A Cute Little Dog Rides His Mini Horse Friend Like a Jockey

Normally, calling something as a “dog and pony show” is an insult, but this video makes us rethink the term. We have come across arguably the greatest dog and pony show of all time, and it is everything you’d ever want in one package and more: a literal dog riding on the back of a mini horse. And their friendship is even more adorable than it sounds.

In a story we saw at Laughing Squid, a nine-year-old Jack Russell Terrier named Dally has been trained by her owner to jump on the back of Spanky, a 10-year-old miniature horse. The image of a dog holding onto a tiny horse like a large-eared jockey would be enough to warm any animal lover’s heart, but this is so much better than that. Once Dally climbs on, Spanky takes her out for a ride that involves jumping over obstacles (which we now demand be a new Olympic sport). That might sound dangerous, but their owner says that Spanky knows when Dally is on his back and runs much slower than he normally would, giving Dally a much smoother and safer ride.

Excuse me, one second, just gotta get this out of my system…

LOOKIT THE DOGGY RIDING HIS BEST FRIEND THE HORSE! LOOK AT THEM GO! LOOK AT THEM!

…Thank you.

I’d also like to take this time to apologize to doggos and horsies everywhere for previously besmirching their good name by using “dog and pony show” as a pejorative. Clearly calling something a dog and pony show is the highest compliment you can bestow.
