Does the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Villain Reveal Star-Lord’s Dad?

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 has been shooting for a while now down in Atlanta, and yet we know basically nothing about the movie’s plot. We know it’ll focus on themes of fatherhood, finally reveal Star-Lord’s dad, and add Mantis to the team, but that’s pretty much it. At least until now! ‘Cause thanks to our pals at JoBlo and Comic Book Movie, we now know who the film’s main baddie is, and her presence fills in a lot of blanks.

Sources for both sites have claimed that Ayesha, a.k.a. Paragon, a.k.a. Kismet, a.k.a. Her will be the villainess that menaces the Guardians this go-’round. On top of that, she’ll most likely be the character played by The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’s Elizabeth Debicki. Now, you may be asking yourself…”Her?” But trust us, Ayesha is a pretty exciting choice. For reasons. Here they are!

For those who don’t know, Ayesha was created by an evil group of scientists called The Enclave who were obsessed with crafting the perfect human specimen to restart our race. Ayesha is a superbeing with a whole bunch of cosmic super powers. She can tap cosmic energy to gain super strength, to regenerate, to blast energy beams…all that good space stuff. But before The Enclave crafted her, they crafted another. His name was Adam Warlock.

Adam Warlock is a hugely important member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and, really, the entire Marvel Universe. He chilled with the Guardians during one of their most prominent runs, and happens to plays a major role in a little storyline called the Infinity Gauntlet. So yeah, introducing Ayesha now, a character whose most well-known storyline involves her trying to hunt down Adam Warlock so they can mate and spawn a master race, seems like a pretty good indication that Warlock will finally appear in Guardians 2.

But what role will he play? Well, here’s where things get interesting. We know the film will hinge on the identity of Peter Quill’s father, but James Gunn has confirmed the character will not be J’son of Spartax, as he is in the comics. And we know thanks to Yondu’s shade-throwing in Guardians 1 that Pete’s dad is a bit of an asshole. So will we see Peter Quill and the Guardians of the Galaxy unite again to stop an evil, genetically-perfect, nigh-unstoppable lady from hooking up with his prickish, omnipotent space-dad? Sounds just outrageous, hilarious, and cosmic enough to be a Guardians of the Galaxy movie!

But what do you guys think? Do you dig Ayesha or were you holding out for a more recognizable villain? Are you down with Adam Warlock as Peter Quill’s pops? Let’s discuss!
