DOCTOR WHO’s “The Day of the Doctor” in LEGO Stop-Motion

Here’s another little fun fan-made tribute to Doctor Who. I tell ya, people on the internet are immensely creative AND have a lot of time on their hands, so the result is almost always spectacular. This one gives you a five-ish minute abridged version of the 50th Anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor,” which has been pretty much hailed as the best episode EVARRR. The stop-motion short was the product of Bookshelf Productions, a YouTube channel specializing in this type of film and has done several LEGO-based short films. (Give them a look if you get a mo’.) However, this particular one is all about the Doctor, so let’s have a peek.

Now, the key to a good LEGO tribute is to find the right hair, and with 13 Doctors, a Clara, two Queen Elizabeths, and a Bad Wolf Moment all needing to be represented, that could be a bit difficult. However, I think the makers did a really admirable job, especially with some of the wilder hairstyles in the Doctor’s past. Luckily, with LEGO Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Star Wars sets out there, hairstyles are quite plentiful. Throw a little Frodo Baggins on your Fourth Doctor, Meriadoc Brandybuck on your Sixth Doctor (in what I’m guessing is the body piece of a clown), and some Palpatine hair for Capaldi’s Eyes and you’ve got yourself quite a nice facsimile.

Obviously, this is just a short version, and pretty much everything having to do with the Zygons has been removed (because nobody’s hair looks like a Zygon), but I think it hits a lot of the more memorable beats and even throws in the Great Curator as an added bonus. Will there be any more Doctor Who LEGO shorts? Who knows? WHO. NOSE?

I just wanted to let you know you hit the nail on the head with this article, Kyle. The ‘figs were all designed by Mitchell, but I know that the hair was definitely the biggest part of making each one.
Also we really wanted to add Zygons. But yeah. πŸ˜›

I bet there would be a solid market for the complete set of Doctors in LEGO as shown in that last scene … a companion expansion set … prime baddy mini kits … That’s too good, it has to exist! Going to lego.com right now …
