For most of Doctor Who series 9, our friend the Doctor (as played by Peter Capaldi) forsook the sonic screwdriver in favor of a pair of sonic sunglasses. While I personally liked them, a lot of people were all “no way, dog” when it came to specs being all sonic and stuff. But, it of course was not to last forever and at the end of “Hell Bent,” the Doctor was down one companion, but up one new sonic screwdriver, a pretty cool design and a TARDIS blue hue. And beginning today, you can buy a version of the new sonic for your very own!
While we didn’t get to see Capaldi use the sonic too much, it did get utilized in “The Husbands of River Song” a wee bit, and it definitely seems a lot less like an all-purpose magic wand and more like, you know, a tricorder that also fastens and unfastens screws. All the way back in the earliest days of the sonic screwdriver with the Second Doctor, he literally just used it to unscrew a thing, but that’s a bit shortsighted these days. And it’s gotten way more ornateâthis new screwdriver is a work of art!
With four different light modes and sound effects, this new sonic screwdriver might be the most versatile (and shiny!) yet, retailing in the U.S. for $29.98. Andâfor a limited time onlyâif you purchase the sonic from BBC Shop or the Doctor Who BBC Shop, you can get an exclusive pack of trading cards from the Twelfth Doctor’s limited edition. While supplies last, of course. For our friends in Canada, go here for Canadian BBC Shop and here for Canadian Doctor Who Shop. It retails for $37.98 up there, just so you know. Exchange rates. You get it.
Now you can be the Twelfth Doctor in style, so toss out those expensive sunglasses you bought and instead grab one of these sweet babies.
Speaking of “Hell Bent,” enjoy our aftershow about all that craziness!
