DOCTOR WHO LEGO Might Soon Be a Thing

LEGO Cuusoo is a way for fans of the building toys (or collectibles, if you’re Will Ferrell) to submit their own designs for sets, often based on popular films or themes. This is how we got the Back to the Future set and the upcoming Ghostbusters sets. Now, it seems, we can add Doctor Who to the list of things LEGO Cuusoo can create… provided you design a good one.

For years, people have wanted Doctor Who in LEGO form, but due to licensing agreements and legal red tape, it hasn’t been possible. Now, however, it seems that all of those conflicts have been settled and we’re a Dalek eyestalk away from being able to travel in space and time with the world’s most popular bricks. In a statement on LEGO Cuusoo’s Licence and Conflict Resolution page on their website, they’ve made it clear that ain’t nothing holding them back now.

“Sometimes we have to turn down project submissions that refer to specific brands or licensed properties,” LEGO Cuusoo said. “We do this to avoid getting your hopes up for something we know we aren’t able to make. In these cases, we already know the LEGO Group can’t secure licensing rights to produce construction toys based on a particular brand or property, due to a conflicting interest with a third party. If such a conflict goes away, we’ll then be able to accept projects based on a particular brand or license.”

“If your project was previously turned down, archived, or deleted due to a licensing conflict that is now resolved, you may re-submit it as a new project. Supporters from past projects cannot be applied to a future project. We now welcome projects based on the following licenses that used to have conflicts: Doctor Who – February 2014.”

In just the couple of days since this was posted, 20 designs and counting have been submitted or re-submitted to LEGO Cuusoo for people to send their support. So, if you think you have an excellent design idea for a Doctor Who set, submit away! Ain’t nobody, lawyer, judge, or Cybermen, gonna to tell you you can’t!

  6. WRSomsky says:

What is most needed are good Dr.Who character minifigs. Ones that are readily recognizable as the Dr.Who characters they portray, but still have the Lego minifig “style”.

  7. Beth says:

You can already get Doctor Who bricks from the U.K. There are a ton of different sets. Just an option for people who don’t want to wait for Lego brand. The UK ones are still fully compatible with Lego.
