DOCTOR WHO Reveals the New Costume for Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor

In Doctor Who, the rules of regeneration dictate that only the Time Lord’s body changes, and not the outfit. So when Jodie Whittaker makes her debut as the Thirteenth Doctor next month, she’ll literally be wearing Peter Capaldi‘s trousers. (According to Capaldi, that’s how he found out the news that his successor would be the show’s first female Doctor!) But when the eleventh season of Doctor Who arrives next year, the new Doctor’s threads will indeed get an upgrade.

BBC has released the first picture of Whittaker in her official costume as the Doctor, and it’s a pretty stark departure from the dark outfits favored by her predecessors. As you can see below, she’s got an overcoat, blue pants, suspenders, and a rainbow stripe on her shirt. It kind of reminds us of the Sixth Doctor’s colorful ensemble, but this is a lot easier to look at.

If this Doctor is anything like her previous regenerations, she will be doing a lot of running in those boots. It’s a Doctor Who tradition! Though it may be a while before we see how the Doctor’s personality has changed with this recasting, we do know who she’ll be running with. Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill have been cast as Graham, Ryan, and Yasmin, respectively. Presumably, those new characters will either be the Doctor’s newest companions or the people who become important to her journey next season.

Doctor Who season 11 will premiere in 2018, but you can catch Whittaker’s first appearance as the Doctor during this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special on December 25.

What do you think about the Doctor’s new outfit? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
