DOCTOR WHO Invades LEGO DIMENSIONS in New Trailer and Screenshots

It’s about wibbly wobbly timey wimey that Doctor Who made its way into the wild world of LEGO video games. Honestly, with more than half a century of storylines and characters, it was practically begging to be given the yellow brick makeover. Well, now our pleas have been heard and the Doctor has set a course in the TARDIS directly into the heart of LEGO Dimensions, the forthcoming mega-mash-up of a video game from Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games. Just in time for San Diego Comic-Con, there’s a brand new trailer showing the Doctor in action, voiced by none other than the Twelfth Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi. (Okay, Thirteenth if you’re nasty and/or pedantic.)

The trailer shows off the first footage of the Doctor Who gameplay, featuring the Doctor battling Daleks and escaping from what looks like a giant Cyberman alongside the likes of Gandalf, Batman, Wyldstyle, Homer Simpson, and many more. Seeing the Doctor and the TARDIS show up everywhere from Gotham City to Aperture Science is just the tip of the iceberg.

Though Capaldi is the only official Doctor lending his voice talents to the game, each and every Doctor will be playable as well. In fact, when you die in game, you will regenerate in chronological order as past Doctors. The TARDIS will also update its interior to reflect the aesthetics of the Doctor you are currently controlling. This of course, means that if you only want to play as Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, you’ll have to systematically murder yourself eleven times to refresh the cycle. Brutal, but probably worth it if you’re a Capaldi diehard.

In addition to the Doctor(s), the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack will feature other Doctor Who mainstays like Clara (Jenna Coleman) and Missy (Michelle Gomez), as well as monsters like Daleks, Cybermen, and other creepy-crawlies from the Doctor Who-niverse. You should also note that though they are in the game, they are non-playable characters. Alas and alack.

Though the base LEGO Dimensions game comes with a playable Doctor Who level, fans who want more of the Doctor and his adventures can purchase the Doctor Who Level Pack, which includes another mission-based Who-centric level, a LEGO minifig of the Twelfth Doctor, and LEGO models of both the TARDIS and K-9 — all of which will be playable in the game itself. The TARDIS will feature an in-game jukebox that will be preloaded with different versions of the Doctor Who theme music, so you can jam out through the ages. Back in the physical realm, the TARDIS and K-9 models are able to be built in several different ways, which leads to different in-game results for an impressive variety of options.

Fans who want more Doctor Who in LEGO Dimensions will be able to purchase the Doctor Who Level Pack which includes an additional mission-based Doctor Who level, along with a LEGO minifigure of the 12th Doctor and LEGO models of the TARDIS and K-9, all playable in the game.  When the 12th Doctor is defeated in the level, he returns as the 1st Doctor and then regenerates back up to the 12th Doctor again.  The interior of the TARDIS will reflect the corresponding Doctor the player embodies or can be manually selected.  There’s even a jukebox inside where players can choose among different versions of the Doctor Who theme music.

The TARDIS and K-9 models can each be physically built and then rebuilt twice to do entirely different things in the digital game for massive variety. Fans who want a little bit more can also purchase the Doctor Who Fun Pack, which comes with a playable Cyberman minifig and a Dalek model that can also be built in three different ways.

In the meantime, check out our gallery below of screenshots of the game in action.

LEGO Dimensions launches on September 27, 2015 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and Wii U.
