Doctor Who Commemorative Stamps From the Royal Mail

OK, here’s the deal: The U.K.’s Royal Mail will be issuing 50th anniversary Doctor Who commemorative stamps on March 26th.

See, I know you’re already rushing off trying to find out how to get your hands on them. Hold on, I have the information here.

First, the what and who: There will be a set of 11 stamps, including each of the Doctors, working back from Matt Smith through David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Peter Davison, Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton, and William Hartnell (the latter two in black-and-white, naturally). There will also be a five-stamp miniature sheet with a TARDIS in the middle, surrounded by a Dalek, a Cyberman, an Ood, and a Weeping Angel.

You know the when: March 26th. You don’t need a why, because you don’t, and where is, of course, in the U.K., where the stamps will be sold online (this is the how) at www.royalmail.com/stamps, by phone at 08457 641641, and at 9,000 Royal Mail post offices. They’re doing a contest and giving away five sets of the stamps, but you have to be a U.K. resident over 18 years old to enter. If you want to enter, or if you want to put yourself on the list to get more information, you can click here.

I don’t have to tell you that you probably don’t want to use them to send off your electricity bill payments or anything like that.

What is this sudden urge to become a stamp collector that I feel…?

  9. matt says:

You can buy them outside of the UK, you just can’t enter the competition if you aren’t a UK resident.

  10. Aj says:

Like commemorative coins, they can’t be used legally elsewhere, but for collectors (philatelics) or just fans! Remember that set of Hobbit stamps from New Zealand? & I spent a stupid amount on acquiring a sheet of Neon Genesis stamps from Japan once. This is awesome, & I can’t wait to get these!

  11. Brad says:

I don’t collect stamps and I’m not well versed in pre-Eccelston Dr. Who, but I like these a lot.

  12. Brian Walton says:

They’re British stamps. Why would they sell them to people in the US?

  13. Michael F. says:

too bad they don’t have a space for country or state since I am in the USA 🙁
