DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special Updates, a SHERLOCK Image, and More TV News

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and that means it’s nearly time for the Doctor Who Christmas special! Today’s TV-Cap has the poster and some new details for the special, a look at season four of Sherlock, an update on Netflix allowing users to download content, and more.

New York Tidings. Doctor Who is returning to New York for its 2016 Steven Moffat-penned Christmas special, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio.” A superhero in the world of the Doctor. Bring it. BBC America released a poster and synopsis for the Christmas day event: “This Christmas sees the Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure. With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?” Poor Manhattan, always getting in trouble. The installment features Peter Capaldi (duh), Matt Lucas as Nardole, and Charity Wakefield as an investigative journalist. [Image BBC America]

An Ending. Season four of Showtime’s Masters of Sex was its last. They announced on Wednesday that they’ve cancelled the drama. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Mark Your Calendars. Marvel’s Inhumans has a television premiere date. The upcoming series is debuting on IMAX first on September 1, 2017 and calling IMAX home for two weeks. That IMAX premiere will actually be the first two episodes shown as an 80 minute viewing. Then, ABC will air the Inhumans premiere on September 26. The eight episode first season will air for eight consecutive weeks. [CBR]

Drowning. Sherlock will be back with a new episode on January 1, and it’s promotion time. The BBC released an animated poster this week called “Rising Tide.” Sherlock and Watson are sitting in the comfy 221B Baker Street home as water floats through the flat. what do you think it means? [Deadline]

Download and Catch Up. Netflix has leveled up with a new feature: they’re allowing subscribers to download content to watch offline. So far, it’s just on on Apple and Android devices. Not everything is available to download across the board, but Netflix will be adding more titles in the future. For example, you can already squirrel away Stranger Things and Supernatural, but you’ll have to wait for other Netflix originals like the Marvel series. This is going to make airline travel so much more pleasant! [Variety]

The Ending. Westworld will air its 90-minute season one finale on Sunday, and HBO’s released photos and a synopsis for “The Bicameral Mind.” Don’t worry, it’s vague so you won’t be spoiled: “Ford (Anthony Hopkins) unveils his bold new narrative; Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) embraces her identity; Maeve (Thandie Newton) sets her plan in motion.” Huh. See a couple more photos from the finale at Slashfilm. Then, if you’re caught up, you know about the recent big twist with Bernard. Actor Jeffrey Wright spoke with TVLine about the direction of Bernard’s story. Read the interview over at TVLine. [Images: HBO]
