DIY STAR WARS Shoes Help You Find the Droids You’re Looking For

You don’t need to travel to a galaxy far, far away to see R2-D2 and C-3PO again because you can add them to your footwear and look at them every day! In other words, these hand painted Star Wars heels by Instructables user doodlecraft are the shoes you’re looking for. No power converters from Tosche Station are required, but you may have to make a run to your local craft store for acrylic paint, clear sealant, and Rub ‘n Buff in silver and gold. We recommend traveling via landspeeder.

Doodlecraft suggests using faux leather or vinyl shoes, and I agree that’s going to be much easier than painting any kind of suede-like texture. That said, canvas takes paint with no problems. You can paint heels or flats and hitting a thrift shop is the best way to track down an affordable pair. Worst case scenario, you can find inexpensive shoe options at places like Target and Payless. Unless you’re going to wear them every day, you don’t need nicer shoes for the project.

Once you have the right pair of kicks, wipe them down with a dry paper towel or washcloth. Use the Rub ‘n Buff to lay down the base color on each of the shoes. If going mismatched isn’t your cup of tea, you can make the shoes look like the same droid. Once the base coat’s ready, add outlines with black craft paint, let it dry, and fill in the colors. Your lines don’t have to be perfect.

Finished Star Wars shoes

Once they’re done, you can add appropriate sound effects as you walk.
