DIY Jedi Robes For All Your Padawans

If you’ve been looking for a way to make your kids (or yourself) some Jedi robes for any and all the conventions coming up this summer, look no further. Epic web-tinkerer Steve DeGraeve was looking for a way to make Jedi robes for a Star Wars Halloween with his family but was faced with complicated patterns or expensive costuming. He chose to come up with his own patterns and post them on his website DeGraeve.com for other padawan apprentices who wanted to look the Jedi part.

Using only a few pieces of fabric and very little actually sewing technique, the pattern he created and shares with the internet is comparable to a pull-over poncho design that you rest on your shoulders. The basic outer robe is just a few pieces of brown fabric you can get at your local Walmart or Jo-Ann Fabrics. He also includes instructions for a tan under tunic that are simply crossed pieces of fabric to wear underneath the outer robe.

The patterns are simple, straightforward, and have extensive instructions so that even those of us (like myself) with almost no sewing talent can get it right. I don’t want to just quote all the instructions here so I’m going to direct you to Degraeve.com for the full how-to. Please, please post pictures of your successful Jedi robes or it’s just no fun. And while you’re over there, check out all the other fun projects that DeGraeve has posted on his website which has been online and churning out solutions and projects since 1999. There are some real gems!
