Prepare to enter a world in which “humans never happened.” The world of Zootopia! Jason Bateman introduces filmgoers to Disney‘s next animated epic in the just-released teaser trailer for the new film, directed by Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) and co-directed by Jared Bush (Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero). It’s been a while since Disney has attempted feature-length anthropomorphic animation in the tradition of Lady and the Tramp and One Hundred and One Dalmations, so it’s fabulous to see the studio re-explore the subgenre with some sly twenty-first century humor; and a huge assortment of critters.
Bateman provides the voice for foxy con-artist Nick Wilde, who partners with idealistic rookie rabbit cop Judy Hops (voiced by Once Upon a Time‘s Ginnifer Goodwin) when she has forty-eight hours to crack her first big case and find a missing mammal in the titular city, comprised of “habitat neighborhoods” like “ritzy Sahara Square” and “frigid Tundratown.” The buddy comedy adventure — billed as “like nothing you’ve seen be-fur” (ouch) — debuts on March 4, 2016. Between Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur and now Zootopia, Disney and Pixar animation fans have a LOT to look forward to in the next year. Here’s to yet another golden age!
