Disney’s DUCKTALES Returns to Comics This Fall

Decades before DuckTales rocked the Disney Afternoon in the ’80s, the adventures of Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey, and Louie unfolded in Carl Barks’ epic run with the Uncle Scrooge comics. A brand new DuckTales TV series is coming to Disney XD this summer, and soon after, the Disney ducks will be returning to the medium that made them famous.

Via Comic Book Resources, IDW has revealed the creative team behind the new DuckTales ongoing comic book series. Joe Caramagna will write DuckTales, which will feature artwork by Luca Usai and Gianfranco Florio. Carmangna is a letterer-turned-writer who previously worked on Marvel’s all-ages comic book adaptations of Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man. Usai and Florio both have extensive experience on Disney comics that were originally published in Italy.

Each issue of DuckTales will feature two stories by the creative team. For the first issue, “The Great Experiment of the Washing Machine,” will send Donald and his nephews to “a top-secret lab, chock-full of crazy inventions to make life easier…” but might make it SHORTER instead! But all we have to go on for the second story is the title: “The Chilling Secret of the Lighthouse!”

This is the first DuckTales comic to be published in the U.S. since 2011, but IDW has continued to publish Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck comics that were originally produced for international fans of the characters. DuckTales #1 will be released on September 13th, 10 days before the weekly series premiere on Disney XD on September 23. But fans won’t have to wait that long to see the ducks in action. IDW is set to release a preview issue, DuckTales #0, in July. Disney XD will premiere the DuckTales TV movie on Saturday, August 12.
