Disney Is Working to Bring Interactive Droids to Its STAR WARS Park

One of the big questions asked when Disney acquired LucasFilm and the Star Wars franchise was what that would mean for the Disneyland and Disneyworld theme parks. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take Disney long to start weaving the space opera into the attractions. Ultimately, the announcement hit that an expanded Star Wars area was coming to the park.

Disney does a great job of creating immersive parks that make you feel like you’ve jumped into a different world, so the idea of a similar, immersive Star Wars experience has gotten us all a teensy bit excited. It looks like Disney is taking the Star Wars experience a bit further by testing out some interactive droids that will roam around the Star Wars lands, like this little guy named Jake.

Jake the Droid

As Gizmodo reports, Jake is currently roaming around the Star Wars Launch Bay in Disneyland, interacting with people in line. It’s not clear at this point if Jake is running on a program or if someone is controlling him, but he’s incredibly responsive. Once the Star Wars lands are finished, the droids you encounter at the park, like Jake, are intended to look and act completely real as well as interact with park attendees whenever appropriate. The ultimate goal is to have these guys roaming all over the Star Wars lands to really make it feel like you’ve been dropped in a galaxy far, far,  away.

Unfortunately, something this rad takes time. The Star Wars lands are at least two years out from opening, so it will be a bit before you and I can start hanging out with droids in Disney parks.  I just hope they end up creating an interactive R2-D2, C-3PO, and BB-8 to roam around the park as well. Here’s hoping!

What do you think of Disney’s plans to have interactive droids around the park? What other elements of Star Wars would you like to see them implement? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
