Disney Dream’s Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats Makes WRECK-IT RALPH Look Extra Delicious

Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats is the ultimate destination for any Wreck-It Ralph fan. The new sugary shop aboard the Disney Dream features an assortment of handmade gelato and ice cream, baked goods, and candy. Walking into the shop is like falling into the Sugar Rush game, but you don’t have to build a candy car and race in order fill your stomach. All you have to do is place an order.

The colorful space was recently added to the Disney Dream during a three week dry dock. They brightened the area by adding Vanellope’s. It used to be an arcade, which was sort of a darker space and as a Disney representative pointed out, not as relevant anymore since most people have smart phones and constant access to games. An arcade isn’t quite the novelty it once was. Disney Dream’s hotel director Thomas said the design process for Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats started about two years ago, and that construction happened 24/7 while the ship was in dry dock.

Besides delicious treats, Vanellope’s is filled with easter eggs. Sour Bill appears in one of the gumball decorations and goes through about 30 sayings. Rich Moore reprised his role from Wreck-It Ralph (yes, he was the director and the voice of Sour Bill) for the candy shop. Another cool touch is the leader board. It’s tied to the point of sale system so that the most popular desserts rise to the top and fluctuate throughout the day. A few desserts knocked King Candy out of first place on this day:

King Candy is present in the store and so is Vanellope and her car. Her sweet ride is in front of a racetrack background and made for photo ops. If you can’t get enough of her racing vehicle, you can get a massive sundae served in a souvenir version of the car.

As mentioned, the shop is immersive. Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Designer Lead Danny Handke said it was a challenge to bring the story of Wreck-It Ralph into a store. I think they definitely managed to hit the right peppy notes.
