Adult Swim Unveils The Origins of Flying Lotus’ Alter Ego, Captain Murphy

The Captain’s back, y’all.

A new video released by Adult Swim asks just where the Flying Lotus alter ego comes from and gives. Noisey debuted the short, which was animated by Adam Fuchs a/k/a Lilfuchs, which is appropriately face-melting and off-kilter.

Of course, so is Flying Lotus, also known as Steven Ellison, who makes several appearances as his alter ego on his new album You’re Dead! whih is due out October 7. Looking like some kind of demonic version of Isaac Hayes birthed out of a Parliament Funkadelic nightmare, the animated clip imagines Captain Murphy as semi-demonic entity from parts unknown, infecting the minds of the young before thrusting himself into this world like an out-of-control disco pelvis.

So is this a setup for a Captain Murphy series? Would the man and the beard wander the Earth battling monsters and solving mysteries? Fuchs isn’t saying, but hopes that the short can act as a prelude to future adventures and offer potential viewers some insight into the character and his hell-blasted world.

In the meantime, you can get a taste of Captain Murphy from You’re Dead in a video sampler. Warning, though: this thing has some saucy/gory illustrations by artist Shintaro Kago, so maybe make sure babies aren’t looking at your iPhone screen on the bus when you watch it.
