Discover JOHN WICK’s Origin in a New Comic Book Series

Fans may have to wait a while for John Wick: Chapter 3 to reveal the fate of the title character, but this fall, the origin of the mysterious assassin will finally be unraveled in a new comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment. Via The Hollywood Reporter, John Wick #1 will explore the beginning of John’s career as a hitman, long before he earned the nickname “Baba Yaga.” The creative team will include writer Greg Pack (Totally Awesome Hulk) and artist Giovanni Valletta. The latter also provided the artwork for the first cover, which you can see below.

Dynamite editor Anthony Marques told THR that the company has “received the blessings from all of the creators involved with the films, every step of the way. That includes the writer/creator of John Wick, Derek Kolstad, as well as Thunder Road, Lionsgate, and even Keanu Reeves. This book is the real deal and people are not going to be disappointed.” Comic book legends Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz have also contributed a cover for the first issue.

After a relatively barebones first outing, John Wick: Chapter 2 opened up an expansive look at the hired assassin underworld through which our title character spent most of his pre-canine-affixed life. Considering the intricacies of the world introduced in the films, there should be no shortage of interesting and imaginative directions for the comic series to take.

John Wick #1 will be released in September.
