Did Last Night’s THE FLASH Finale Tease a Major Comic Book Event?

Are we reaching a… Flashpoint on the infinite DC show Earths? Are all of our favorite DC heroes about to come together? Find out today on a very spoilery Nerdist News! Last night’s season two finale of The Flash ended with a major cliffhanger as Grant Gustin‘s Barry Allen stopped Zoom from using the Magnatar to destroy the multiverse. This means big things for season three! At the very least, Supergirl’s move over to the CW  means we’ve definitely gotta look forward to a trip to crossover country, and the possibilities are plentiful! We’re talking Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Flash, Arrow: the whole super-deal! But that’s a tall order, right? How are we supposed to get all of these parallel universes into one plane? Oh yeah, what was that little timeline-collapsing tool we talked about earlier? The Magnatar!

But will Barry’s timeline-adjusting decision to finally save his mother’s life in the past have too much of an effect on the future to make this come true? If Barry’s mom never died, that would most likely mean his father never went to prison. If that’s true and his father never went to prison, Barry never would’ve been taken in by the West family, which led to him becoming a crime scene investigator, and being in the right place at the right time to become the very superhero we know and love, the Flash!

So what’s going to happen after this cliffhanger is no longer, well, hanging? Will Barry still be the Flash? Will anyone even know who he is? And who, given the second chance at life, will his mom become? And what does this mean for their relationship? We know for a fact that there will be ramifications in this universe, possibly crossing shows to Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, since they all exist within the same timeline. This might even be the impetus behind Barry deciding to use the Magnatar to merge the timelines… just like in Flashpoint! A major DC Comics arc that fused the DC, Vertigo, and Wildstorm universes all into one rebooted continuity!

But what about you guys? What do you think this Flashpoint-esque turn means? What changes do you expect to see for season three? Will the Speed Force get angry and have to send say Barry’s not-dad Jay Garrick in to fix everything? Let’s discuss!
