DIABLO III Is The Latest Port To Make Its Way To Nintendo Switch

While the Nintendo Switch has fantastic original games like The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, there’s no denying that it’s a beastly port machine. A lot of the console’s best titles — Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Bayonetta 2, Stardew Valley, and others — originally appeared on other consoles. This isn’t a bad thing; these re-releases usually introduce new features, and it’s often the first time these games are playable on a portable console. The Switch’s library of ports continues to grow, as it has been announced that one of the most beloved games of the past decade, Diablo III, is heading to the Switch this fall (as Diablo III: Eternal Collection).

The core game will be there, as well as its two expansion packs: Reaper Of Souls, which came out in 2014, and Rise of the Necromancer, which was released last summer. Cross-platform play isn’t supported yet, nor has it been announced, but Blizzard senior producer Pete Stilwell said recently, “I wouldn’t ever take anything off the table, it’s something we’re exploring, that we’re interested in. But it is not currently a feature.”

There are also a handful of new features that will be exclusive to this Switch release, as Nintendo notes: “Discover pieces of Zelda’s world in Sanctuary. The Eternal Collection on Switch includes the Cucco companion pet, a Triforce portrait frame, and an exclusive transmogrification set that will let your heroes sport Ganondorf’s iconic armor. You’ll also receive unique cosmetic wings.”

Diablo III is the first Blizzard game released on a Nintendo platform since StarCraft 64 in 2000, and Stillwell also recently said that this Diablo III port could open the door to other Blizzard games on the Switch: “Without going beyond [the Diablo port], I think it was a good exploration into the platform and into the relationship with Nintendo that has been extremely positive, extremely healthy and forward-thinking.”

Is all of this enough to make you re-buy Diablo III on the Switch? What other Blizzard games do you want on Nintendo’s console? Let us know what you think down in the comments!
