DEADPOOL V GAMBIT # 1 Is a Clash of Marvel Antiheroes (Preview)

Although Deadpool and Gambit have both been among Marvel’s most prominent new additions of the past quarter century, they’ve barely crossed paths in the comic book universe. But that’s going to change big time this summer.

Next month, Marvel is debuting a five issue Deadpool v Gambit miniseries—a miniseries that wears its sardonic sense of humor on its sleeve, what with the helpful cover note, “The ‘v’ is for ‘vs.’” That’s certainly not a swipe at a certain big blockbuster comic book movie from the Distinguished Competition that Deadpool’s movie out-grossed single-handedly. Nope, not at all.

Because Gambit and Deadpool don’t really have a history together, writers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker get to give them one. In this miniseries they are teaming up for the con of a lifetime… assuming they don’t kill each other first. When it comes to Deadpool, always bet on Death—she’s kind of his girlfriend, or at least she was one of the great loves of his life before he got married to a Succubus.

Deadpool v Gambit 1 Preview 1

Marvel has released a few preview pages from the miniseries by artist Danilo Beyruth, which either find Gambit and Deadpool on the verge tearing each other apart or throwing back a few drinks together while Spider-Man and Daredevil are at each other’s throats. There’s also a glimpse of Black Fox, the elderly thief who brought Marvel’s two antiheroes together for this caper. You can see those pages and the covers by Kevin Wada and Tim Seeley in our gallery below.

Deadpool v Gambit # 1 will be released on Wednesday, June 22.
