Although Spider-Man and Deadpool are currently co-starring in one of Marvel‘s best selling comics, there’s little chance that they will interact on the big screen anytime soon. As much as we’d like to see them officially team up in live-action, forging that bond between Marvel, Sony, and 20th Century Fox seems like an unlikely prospect. However, one fan took it upon himself to make it happen!
YouTube user Zach Ace put together a clip on YouTube that mashes together part of the airport battle between Captain America and Spider-Man from Captain America: Civil War with footage from Deadpool. The result is a remarkably good (but very short) meeting between the two in which Spidey expresses his admiration for Deadpool. Judging by the cartoon drawing in Deadpool’s hands, he’s a pretty big Spider-Man fan too!
Zach Ace credits Reddit user riceandnori for creating the initial gif that led to this video. The clip has picked up quite a bit of interest online and it even won the approval of Ryan Reynolds, the man who spent over a decade trying to bring a Deadpool movie to life before finally starring in the adaptation earlier this year.
If Deadpool had been released after the latest Captain America film, it’s likely that Reynolds’ onscreen alter ego would have made some Civil War related jokes. Perhaps Deadpool 2 will give its title character the opportunity to do so. That would actually be appropriate, since in the original Civil War comic book event, Deadpool and his frenemy Cable were drawn to Iron Man and Captain America’s sides, respectively.
