DEADPOOL 2 Will Begin Filming Early Next Year

What do you do when you’ve made the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time starring a foul-mouthed, hyper-talkative, fourth-wall-shattering superhero? You follow is up with a quickness. Fans eager to see Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth back on the big screen will be pleased to learn that Deadpool 2 will begin filming in early 2017, according to producer Simon Kinberg.

“The guys, [Paul] Wernick and [Rhett] Reese, are working on the script, and we hope to have a script very soon,” Kinberg told Collider (via Comic Book) at the 42nd Annual Saturn Awards. “We hope to shoot the movie sometime at the beginning of next year.”

This is great news for fans eager to see Ryan Reynolds strap on the iconic red-and-black spandex again. Deadpool 2 was officially confirmed at CinemaCon in April, and will see director Tim Miller, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and star Ryan Reynolds returning. But that’s not all — Cable is confirmed to be appearing in the superhero sequel too, which is great news considering their delightful comic book history together.

The news of Cable’s inclusion has already prompted certain actors to throw their names into the ring for consideration, like Avatar‘s Stephen Lang and Kindergarten Cop 2‘s Dolph Lundgren. But if you ask Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, he wants Jon Hamm to play Scott Summers’ cybernetically enhanced, time travelin’ son. Of course, our own Blake Rodgers had some casting suggestions of his own. It’s just a crying shame that Fox doesn’t have the rights to Thanos, because I would love to see the Merc with a Mouth go up against the Marvel’s Mad Titan in a battle to see who gets to bone Death.

The Deadpool/Thanos Connection

While Deadpool 2 is the next time we will see Wade Wilson on the big screen, Fox is also currently developing an X-Force movie, which is rumored to include Wolverine’s younger female clone, X-23. If it follows the recent comic book iterations of X-Force, then it seems likely that we could see Deadpool joining Marvel’s mutant black ops team too. Adding further credence to this line of thinking are Kinberg’s comments that X-Force could be R-rated too, like Deadpool.

Marvel’s next cinematic mutant outing will be The Wolverine 3, Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as Wolverine, which bows on March 2, 2017. Considering the rumors that it’s a take on Old Man Logan and could feature the Reavers as the main villains, there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about Fox’s Marvelverse until Deadpool 2 finally makes its way to theaters.
