While the historic Disney and Fox deal may send Deadpool and the rest of the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters into the orbit of the MCU, it’s not enough to derail the unconventional promo campaign for Deadpool 2. Earlier this morning, Ryan Reynolds tweeted out a new picture based upon the sequel that features Deadpool and Josh Brolin‘s Cable in a pose that should be very familiar to anyone with an appreciation for classical artwork.
Some might call this creation a masterpiece, but to me itâs just well hung art to be shared with the world. pic.twitter.com/O7ezRdGXX2

Why yes, that is Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, one of the most famous paintings from the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, they’re referencing, only this version gives Cable his time portal effect as he “body-slides” into the present. It’s also pretty amusing to see Cable’s gun touch Deadpool’s hand, although it’s a much smaller weapon than Cable’s comic book counterpart usually wields.
We can’t help but notice that the bottom right of the poster states “The Second Coming,” which can be inferred to be about Deadpool 2 itself. But it may have a double meaning.
Within Marvel’s comic book universe, “Second Coming” is the name of the crossover storyline that brought Hope Summers, the Mutant Messiah, back to the present as a teenager. Hope had previously been taken to the future by Cable, who raised her as his daughter to prepare her for her destiny.
It’s entirely possible that Hope will appear in Deadpool 2 as a young child. Even in the new promo art, Cable can be seen with a teddy bear on his belt. That’s not standard equipment for a time traveling mutant freedom fighter. We believe that is also a hint of Hope’s presence, and she may be one of the key elements in the sequel. We’ll know for sure when Deadpool 2 opens on June 1, 2018.
