How DEADPOOL 2’s Extended Cut Teases a Wolverine Team Up

Hugh Jackman is done as Wolverine. That’s been the line from Jackman himself ever since Logan gave him a critically acclaimed swansong for his 17 year run as the X-Men‘s most popular mutant. Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has been trying to change Jackman’s mind in order to get him back for a Deadpool/Wolverine movie, but the closest we’ve come to that was the mid-credits scene in Deadpool 2 which re-purposed some clips from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But at Comic-Con, the first ever showing of the Deadpool 2 Super Duper Cut goes beyond the theatrical teaser and hints that a Wolverine and Deadpool team up may still be in the cards. Today’s Nerdist News examines the possibilities.

Join host and fourth wall breaking correspondent Jessica Chobot as she takes us through the details of the new footage. In the original version of Deadpool 2, Jackman’s Wolverine is only on screen for a few seconds before modern Deadpool travels back in time to kill his disappointing counterpart. But in the newly extended cut, Deadpool tells Wolverine he should say “yes” when he approaches him in the future about joining a superhero team.

It just so happens Wolverine and Deadpool were both members of the Uncanny X-Force team, alongside Psylocke, Archangel, and Fantomex. That’s not the lineup currently being used for the X-Force movie, but it may be enough of a tangential connection to justify Wolverine’s inclusion. Would Jackman really come back for another full-length movie as Wolverine? We suspect not. However, a smaller role in X-Force may not be entirely out of the question. It could also be saved for the mid-credits, to pay off the joke from Deadpool 2.
