DC Announces Two New Young Reader Imprints with Powerhouse YA Authors

Just because yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday didn’t mean big news was limited to on-screen entertainment. In the world of comic books, DC Comics has revealed its ambitious plans to roll out two new imprints targeting new readers that feature some very popular young adult authors as well as many of the world’s greatest superheroes.

Via The New York Times, DC Ink will directly target YA readers, while DC Zoom will be geared towards middle grade readers. The first two DC Ink graphic novels were also announced: Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass, by Mariko Tamaki (Supergirl: Being Super) and Steve Pugh (The Flintstones) and Mera by Danielle Paige (Dorothy Must Die). Artist Mike Norton also revealed he created the eye-catching cover for Mera, which you can see below. Additionally, it was reported that both DC Ink graphic novels will be just under 200 pages for $16.99.

Unlike the other launch titles for DC Zoom, Gene Leun Yang’s Superman Smashes The Klan will be serialized in print before it is collected as a trade paperback. The rest of DC Zoom line will be complete graphic novels by YA authors Laurie Halse Anderson (Speak), Melissa de la Cruz (The Descendants), Michael Northrop (TombQuest), and Ridley Pearson (Kingdom Keepers).

Pearson’s Super Sons graphic novel will feature Damian Wayne and Jonathan Kent, the children of Batman and Superman, but it will be free of any continuity ties to DC’s larger universe. The first DC Zoom title will be DC Super Hero Girls: Search for Atlantis, with Shea Fontana and Yancey Labat. The Zoom titles will be available for $9.99 each. Both DC Ink and DC Zoom will launch this fall.
