DC Comics’ POWERLESS Lands Premiere Date, and More TV News

DC Comics’ realm on television is about to expand. They already have shows on The CW and Fox, and they’ll add NBC with the debut of Powerless. Get the premiere date for the upcoming comedy in today’s TV-Cap, learn about James Callis joining 12 Monkeys, get background information on the Times Square photo in Westworld, and more.

Insurance Comedy. We’ve spent plenty of time with superheroes in DC’s comic book TV series, so how about hanging with some ordinary folks in super-powered world with Powerless? The comedy will arrive on NBC on February 2. And hey, we have a review of the pilot. [Newsarama, Image: NBC]

Ring to Westeros. Fans of UFC and Game of Thrones should keep an eye out for a familiar fighting face in season seven. Watchers On the Wall reports UFC’s Conor McGregor will make a cameo appearance in the upcoming seven as part of Euron Greyjoy’s pirates. [A.V. Club]

One Last Time. President Barack Obama will make his last appearance as the U.S. leader on The Daily Show soon. He’ll sit down with Trevor Noah for an interview at the White House; the episode will air on December 12. [Deadline]

That Doesn’t Look Like… A photo left behind by a guest in Westworld‘s sprawling park seemed to be the first domino to fall. When Abernathy discovered the modern image, he shouldn’t have been able to process the contents, but he did. The photo is significant in the series, and it turns out it has a fun back story, too. It’s a stock photo from Getty Images taken by Erik Von Weber (Arnold’s last name) and the woman in the photo is a model, Claire Unabia, who’s appeared in America’s Top Model. Take Your Ears Away. Ramin Djawadi’s themes for Westworld get in your head, and they’ll be part of the soundtrack for season one of the sci-fi drama along with player piano arrangements of other songs. WaterTower Music is helping to make your ears happy by making the 34-song album available to stream. Get all the details here at Nerdist.

Back to Sci-Fi. James Callis, a.k.a. Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica, will appear in a recurring role in season three of 12 Monkeys. Series executive producer Terry Matalas told Entertainment Weekly (EW) Callis’ character is a “rebellious and enigmatic time-traveler raised throughout history by the Army of the 12 Monkeys, one whose conflicted personal and emotional path will change everything for James Cole and Dr. Cassandra Railly.” Any thoughts about who he’s playing? Recaps and a Review. I have a mixed bag for you today. First off, travel back to Thursday to read my recap of Supernatural (it hits close to home). Then, go way back with the latest installment of Game of Thrones Re-Throned. Finally, stick to the present with Michael’s review of White Rabbit Project.

Warning: spoilers follow for Arrow season five fall finale. Stop reading now if you’re not caught up.

Huh. Call me surprised but not really surprised at learning Laurel Lance/Black Canary returned in Arrow’s season five fall finale. How, who, why, and did we mention how? Maybe Flashpoint? I’m not sure, but IGN has some theories about what happened. In more Black Canary news, CBR points out Stephen Amell recorded a Facebook video (above) and talked about the importance of the character without confirming whether she’s officially back. He said based on the comics, “…the Black Canary is easily the most important feature next to the Green Arrow. Period. Full stop. Forever. So it would be very nice to have the Black Canary back. I would agree with that.”

Is Powerless on your to watch list? Take a trip to the comments and tell me about your hopes for the series.
