Day of the Tentacle, one of the most excellent LucasArts point-and-click adventure games out there, is coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Day of the Tentacle: Special Edition was announced earlier today at the PlayStation Experience show in Las Vegas, where our very own Malik Forté spent a better portion of the night scoping out the hottest gaming news and letting us know what’s up. Unfortunately that’s about all we know at this point — that the game is on the horizon and we can expect it sometime in 2015.
Day of the Tentacle is one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve even got a tattoo of the maniacal Purple Tentacle. Why? It made me laugh. Sure, plenty of point-and-click adventurers gave that luxury back in the LucasArts heyday, but how often does a game give you a hearty chuckle these days? You say “plenty,” and I say “not often enough.”
The Maniac Mansion series has never taken issue with poking fun at itself, and this truly resonated with me. LaVerne’s hilarious and quizzical one-liners, Hoagie’s stereotypical “rocker” persona, and Bernard’s awkward timing were things that stayed with me year after year. It was one of the first adventures my father enjoyed alongside me. With every trip to the desktop for the UHS to find out how to solve the next puzzle, every Swiss bank account I couldn’t figure out a use for, and every frozen hamster, I fell more and more in love. And now it’s headed to modern consoles. What a spectacular announcement. Maybe I should get another tattoo.

My favourite was Full Throttle, another LucasArts gem!
Woooohooo!! Other than maybe Full Throttle, DOTT is easily my favourite game of the Lucas Arts mob. A variation of the picture above has been my Twitter profile pic basically since I joined that… heck, it’s even my work computers desktop background.
Now about buying a PS4…
This makes me sooooooo Freaking happy you have no idea. This is looooong overdue. I love the redone Monkey Island games, but DOT was always my favorite. That being said whoever owns Sierra should get their asses in gear and rerelease some of their stuff. I’ve got the Steam versions but even those are hard to play on Windows 8.

AND MAC
AND Linux
And PC/MAC/LINUX.
