David Bowie Was Going to Be in the New TWIN PEAKS

David Lynch and Mark Frost’s revival of their TV cult classic Twin Peaks recently wrapped production after seven months of shooting, both in Washington State and in Los Angeles. Upon completion, Showtime released the full cast list for the series, featuring some 217 actors, with many returning favorites, and many new faces as well. We’re talking well known names too,  like Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Watts, Tom Sizemore, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Laura Dern and Ashley Judd.

Sadly, one very well known name was set to return to the series, but it just wasn’t in the cards. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, actor Harry Goaz, who plays Deputy Andy on the show, has revealed that musical legend David Bowie was indeed slated to make a return appearance on the new show before his untimely death in January.

Bowie had previously appeared in the 1992 spinoff film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me as FBI Agent Phillip Jeffries, in a very brief–but very trippy–cameo that left many questions unanswered. The scene is less than four minutes long, and implies that Bowie’s character has vanished into the otherworldly Black Lodge some years prior, only to briefly appear once again in our world, and then vanish again. You can watch the entire sequence in the video above.

So it seems that with Bowie’s passing, the mystery of Agent Jeffries will remain that–a mystery. Unless Lynch and Frost decided to recast him, but so far, the recasts have all been for characters who chose not to participate, not any actors from the original series who passed away. Out of respect, I doubt Lynch would do that, but you never know.

Are you as bummed out as we are about the lack of Bowie in the new Twin Peaks? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
