David Bowie Has Released Another New Song, “Lazarus”

It was just last month that rock legend David Bowie dropped his trippy new video for his latest song “Blackstar”, from the forthcoming album of the same name, Bowie’s first in three years. Actually, the album will technically be called “★,” which is delightifully pretentious in an old-school Bowie kind of way. That song was long, bizarre, ominous, epic, and more or less what you’d expect from David Bowie at this point in his career. He has zero effs to give and nothing to prove to anyone.

Now Bowie has dropped his second single from Blackstar, titled “Lazarus”. This one’s another spacey rock jam, and definitely as gloomy as his previous single. Interestingly, this song might possibly be tied to another upcoming project of Bowie’s, a musical version of his 1970s science fiction film The Man Who Fell To Earth.

The name of his new musical–which he is producing and composing, but not performing in–also happens to be Lazarus. I doubt that’s a coincidence. Maybe we’ll be seeing former Hedwig and the Angry Inch star Michael C. Hall, who is set to star in this new production, performing this new song as part of the show when it finally debuts sometime next year.

The video for “Lazarus” is set to premiere on January 7, 2016, which is the day before the album drops, and also happens to be Bowie’s 69th birthday. But for now, you can listen to the whole six minute song in the video above.
