The on-screen history between The Muppets and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is rich: In the 2011 movie The Muppets, Grohl impersonated Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem drummer Animal as part of a lame motel cover band, The Moopets. He called himself Animool while providing background vocals about cheap nightly rates and free parking as long as you’re not driving an RV.
Now it’s been revealed that Grohl is set to reunite with his felt pals on the December 1 episode of the television series The Muppets. The episode is titled âGoing, Going, Gonzoâ and will feature, alongside an appearance from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Grohl challenging Animal to a drum-off.
Perhaps all the sitting Grohl has been doing on his throne has given him an itch to get back behind the kit. Even if you know Grohl primarily as the guitar-playing frontman of Foo Fighters, most music fans are also aware that he was the drummer of iconic ’90s grunge band Nirvana. He’s done far more drumming than that as well: He’s the drummer of supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, is considered the de facto third member of comedy rock band Tenacious D, and was the drummer on Queens of the Stone Age’s most successful album, Songs for the Deaf.
No advance clips of the episode are available anywhere, so in the meantime, watch Grohl’s original run-in with The Muppets, playing tambourine and really pushing those killer motel deals.
