Dave Grohl and THE MUPPETS’ Animal Finally Have Their Drum-Off

The upcoming drum-off between Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and Animal from The Muppets has been years in the making, ever since the 2011 The Muppets movie, in which Grohl portrayed Animool in a Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem knock-off band, The Moopets. The epic battle will take place on tonight’s episode of The Muppets, titled “Going, Going, Gonzo.”

Actually, if you live in Canada, it’s already happened. The episode has already aired over there, which is why we all can watch these clips now, starting at 2:26 in the video above.

The scene takes place over the episode’s closing credits, with Grohl saying he’s been waiting years for this to go down. The two then go head-to-head in a contest that devolves into the two dismantling their drum kits. The result of the duel is inconclusive, with the two surrounded by drum components, out of breath and simultaneously declaring, “You win.”

The video above also shows Grohl performing a slightly brassier version of the Foo Fighters hit “Learn To Fly” with Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem, playing it differently than they did in rehearsal. After the band presents the idea of going off-script with their performance, Grohl asks why they bothered to rehearse. Floyd Pepper brilliantly points out, “Because if we don’t rehearse, then there’s nothing to do it different from,” a philosophy of which Grohl approves.

On top of all of that, Joseph Gordon-Levitt also guests in tonight’s episode, in case Grohl wasn’t enough star power for you.
