DARK SOULS III Announced at E3

Boy-oh-boy, how can one even keep up with everything coming out of E3 today? Microsoft’s Xbox showcase brought all kinds of goodies for us to feast our eyes on, as we have shown you, and one that will get a lot of gamers’ blood pressure up is the official announcement of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls III.

The Dark Souls franchise, published by Bandai Namco, has been a huge hit on console and PC since the release of the first game back in 2011. Today’s cinematic trailer for the newest installment offers a look at a dark, grim, and all around creepy atmosphere that has become a staple in the series.

We are given an ominous fragment of a sentence telling us “…now only embers remain” before we’re introduced to a fantastical setting that has suffered a devastating destruction. As the music swells and a bell somewhere tolls (for thee?) we meet a gigantic creature, wielding a massive cleaver, awakening in the ruins. Equal parts Lich King, Balrog, and Colossus, it is clearly something you don’t want to mess with. Who are we kidding though? This is Dark Souls, you are going to have to fight it at some point.

Dark Souls III is slated for release in early 2016, and according to various sources, it may very well be the last game in the Dark Souls series. Always better to go out on a high note, and it looks like Dark Souls III is aiming to do just that.
