Dark Horse Comics Reveals Their FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2018 Offerings

Free Comic Book Day is nearly upon us, a day that most comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops, all to spread the love of the comic book medium. And this year the folks at Dark Horse Comics have a real treat in store for their  readers, with two comics based on several beloved properties. First off, Dark Horse is set to feature all-ages stories from Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra and Nintendo’s ARMS for their Free Comic Book Day Silver offering on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

Avatar Korra pairs up with an unlikely sidekick for a super-important, top-secret mission to track down a pack of lost pets in a story written by The Legend of Korra co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino with art by Jayd Aït-Kaci and Vivian Ng. And in a story based on Nintendo’s exclusive fighting game ARMS, a young fighter trains tirelessly to reach the top in the ARMS League Grand Prix—but first, he must defeat 599 other contenders! ARMS is written by Ian Flynn (Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man) with art by Joe Ng (Street Fighter, Overwatch: Binary). The FCBD all-ages issue features an equally beautiful and fun The Legend of Korra cover by Jayd Aït-Kaci and Vivian Ng. You can check out the cover from Dark Horse’s FCBD Silver Offering down below:

And Dark Horse Comics’ FCBD Gold Comic will feature Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch and Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s Black Hammer, with a cover by Kate Niemczyk (Mockingbird). The Overwatch story boasts art from Niemczyk with Andrew Robinson (Starman) and Joelle Sellner (Mer) uniting to write the adventures of Zarya. In Overwatch: Searching, Sergeant Aleksandra Zaryanova is sent to eliminate the elusive hacker, Sombra. To do so, she reluctantly teams up—and butts heads—with an omnic hacker. As they hone in on their target, Zarya realizes that she will have to reassess her worldview about omnics.

In the world of Black Hammer—a thousand years in the future—a collection of teenage superheroes, inspired by the legendary heroes of Black Hammer Farm, are determined to solve the riddle of what happened to the last great heroes of the twentieth century. Black Hammer creators Jeff Lemire (Descender) and Dean Ormston (The Sandman) return to their opus as writer and artist respectively with Wilfredo Torres (Moon Knight) joining Ormston in illustrating and Dave Stewart (Hellboy) providing his colorist skills to the project.
