Last year, Brian Michael Bendis‘ surprising exodus from Marvel to DC left a pretty big void to fill at his former employer. Now, Marvel has revealed that writer Dan Slott will take over Iron Man following Bendis’ departure. However, Slott will also be ending his decade long run on Amazing Spider-Man.
Slott made the announcement himself during an interview with Vulture, and he also confirmed that he will be picking up Iron Man with Tony Stark once again under the helmet for the first time since the end of Civil War II. Slott also dropped a few hints about where his run will go. “This [is] gonna be about technology in the Marvel universe in a very specific way and itâs gonna lead to very big things,” said Slott. “Tony Stark builds the future. Itâs not that heâs not out to discover the next big thing. But heâs gonna take his own two hands and heâs gonna build where he wants to go, or what he wants to do…He made it, and he stands amongst the gods because of what he can imagine and what he can make. Thatâs exciting.”
Slott added that “there will be a very unique cast in this book of characters: Iron Man characters you love and Marvel characters that you havenât seen folded into the Iron Man cast.” Presumably, a newly redesigned Iron Man armor will also be a part of Slott’s run, since Stark often changes the look of his alter ego. However, Marvel has not yet released a glimpse of the new design or named an artist for Slott’s run.
Additionally, Slott confirmed that Amazing Spider-Man #801 will be his final issue of the series, following the conclusion of his upcoming Green Goblin storyline. A new Spider-Man creative team has not yet been named.
