Three months ago, Daisy Ridley had a breakout performance as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And while Ridley is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII, her next franchise role could be Lara Croft!
Via a report that originated at Deadline, Ridley is among the actresses who are currently up for the Tomb Raider reboot that GK Films has set up at Warner Bros. and MGM. As noted in the original story, Ridleyâs representatives havenât had any official negotiations with the producers nor have any offers been made. But âconversations have taken place,â and the producers havenât yet narrowed down who they want in the lead role. Nerdist reached out to GK Films for confirmation, but we have not yet received a reply as of press time.
Although Ridley doesnât have many feature credits beyond The Force Awakens, she had a few roles on British television before her big break. Sheâs also about the right age to portray the younger Lara Croft from the two most recent Tomb Raider video games, which chronicled Laraâs first adventures. Angelina Jolie previously starred in two Tomb Raider movies in 2001 and 2003.
Recently, Tomb Raider director Roar Uthaug said that making the new Lara Croft âfeel like a real human beingâ was a priority for the reboot. Ridleyâs relatability in The Force Awakens was one of her most praised qualities. And it would make for some interesting symmetry if Ridley briefly stepped away from the Star Wars franchise to play a world famous archaeologist, just like her costar Harrison Ford had done with Indiana Jones.
