Daisy Ridley Heads to Studio Ghibli Classic ONLY YESTERDAY in English Dub Cast

In very little time, English actress Daisy Ridley has broken into two much-beloved film series. But while we all know she’s going to make her first galaxy far, far away appearance as Rey the…whatever she ends up being in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, she’s recently been announced as joining the voice cast of a film from one of the world’s best animation studios, Japan’s Studio Ghibli.

Ridley is currently recording her role as Taeko, the lead character in the 1991 Ghibli film Only Yesterday, written and directed by Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata. The film’s North American distribution rights have been obtained by GKids, the company which also distributes other Ghibli hits like Takahata’s Oscar-nominated The Take of the Princess Kaguya, Hiromasa Yonebayashi’s When Marnie Was There, and Goro Miyazaki’s From Up on Poppy Hill.

Ridley is joined by the likes of Dev Patel, Orange is the New Black‘s Alison Fernandez, and Her Universe founder and Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice actor Ashley Eckstein. The English dub is set for release to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Only Yesterday, another film in Takahata’s lyrical and elegiac cycle of films about Japan.

The actress was thrilled to be taking part in the dub and proved it by posting this Instagram photo on Monday.

Only Yesterday tells the story of a 27-year-old unwed woman who travels by train to see her family in the country and experiences memories of her schoolgirl days in 1966, causing her to question the choices she’s made in her life. The 25th Anniversary release is set for sometime in 2016.

Is there anything Ms. Ridley can’t do?! What popular thing should she be a part of next? Let us know in the comments below!
