Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley is making the jump to lightspeed music.
Last week, J.J. Abrams divulged that Ridley is more than just a phenomenal actress. “One day on set, she just started singing and had the most beautiful voice I ever heard,” he said, speaking at the US-Ireland Alliance’s Oscar Wilde Awards, where Ridley was being honored.
For those of us that saw her impromptu duet with Oscar Isaac posted to Youtube last December (pre-The Force Awakens), that was old news. But then he added: “On Saturday, this weekend, she is going to record a song with an unnamed person, but let’s just say a massive superstar.”
Itâs just been revealed that Ridleyâs âmassive superstarâ is Barbara Streisandâherself an icon in both the film and music industries. For the collaboration, Ridley will find herself in rarified air, as Streisand has famously recorded duets with Elvis, Stevie Wonder, and Judy Garland.
Ridley turned to Instagram to confirm the news, sharing a color-coordinated photo of herself and Streisand with the caption: “I’m gonna end this spate of pictures detailing my insane weekend with this… Ummmmmmmmmmmm…”
Fear not Star Wars enthusiasts; this doesn’t mean that Ridley has lost track of her priorities. She’s also been recording with Mark Hamill, preparing for an Episode VIII that will ostensibly return to Luke Skywalker’s storyline. “Itâs two hours of me and Mark Hamill staring at each other,” she teased of the forthcoming film in an interview with MTV News. “[Hamill is] amazing to rehearse with, and Iâm very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff. Itâs such a good story, seriously… Luke is so cool in this one. Really!”
