This is what happens when a dad and his three-year-old daughter play old video games together, and the girl asks if she could save Mario in Donkey King the same way she could play as the Princess in Super Mario Bros. 2, and dad sets out to make it happen. He hacked the ROM, pur his daughter into the game, and voila — Donkey Kong: Pauline Edition.
Naturally, the Internet is generating commenters who are somehow offended by this. But it’s wonderful, so to heck with ’em. And, while we’re at it, what game would you want to put yourself into? Comment below.

What could possibly be wrong with personalizing a video game? I was very proud the day I figured out how to get into my old “Warcraft II” game and replaced all the Orcs’ speech with pledges of allegiance to my wife. “Yes, Margaret!” “I’ll do it ‘cuz I love Margaret!” “Ahh!! Goodbye, Margaret!!”
Jenn Zuko, I love you.
Also, slight typo – Donkey King?
This is just awesome, maybe games should always have this option in the future? Female or Male option? We can retrofit right?
He didn’t put a female in the hero role because he could. He put a female as the hero because he wanted his daughter to have an avatar that represents her. I’m older and I still always want to play as the princess as she’s the only girl option, of course I’d rather be Daisy as she has cool brown hair too.
This is wonderful.
I would want to be put in “Thief.” Garrette?
Yeah, when he says ‘she asked me if she could play as the girl’ he means she wanted to play as the girl that Mario rescues. His daughter isn’t in the game. Still a very awesome dad to do this for her.
Why would ANYONE bash this guy for doing something so sweet for his daughter? What harm does it do to the critics……? Remember – Those that can – DO! Those that cannot – sit behind their laptops and troll………..
Asshats!!
Nerdist Industries rule……..!
Slight correction, he didn’t put his daughter in the game, Pauline is the name of the damsel character. He just transposed Mario with her.
