Keiji Inafune’s D.I.C.E. 2014 keynote was mainly focused around his Kickstarter-backed, Mega Man spiritual successor The Mighty No. 9. At the closing of his speech, Inafune gave us an interesting glimpse at concept art for Mighty No. 7, a character that went through many stages before reaching its final form for the game Mighty No. 9. The folks at Computer and Video Games were able to capture these great shots of the concept art:
As you can see, just as Mighty No. 9’s main character Beck bears a striking resemblance to Mega Man, Mighty No. 7 looks a lot like Mega Man series favorite Zero. Inafune described Mighty No. 7 as a ninja character with twin blades and a sharp scissor-like face mask, but no mention of electric powers, for anyone who might have been wondering.
Inafune also revealed the first gameplay since last year’s test footage to Keynote attendees, giving everyone their first taste of how the characters control and the game’s mechanics. Mighty No. 9 will be available on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, 360 and Wii U, but no definite release date is locked in quite yet. If you’re as excited as I am and can’t wait to get your hands on this, perhaps the Mega Man board game can serve as a sufficient hold-over in the meantime.
