Crowds Become Appealing in This Cute MASS HYSTERIA Pop Culture Art Series

Crowds normally make me uncomfortable. I do my best to avoid them, and when I can’t escape, I have to take several deep breaths. I don’t feel panic when I look at the crowds in these illustrations though. They’re part of a new series by Truck Torrence, a.k.a 100% Soft, called Mass Hysteria. And said series is currently on display in 100% Soft’s first solo exhibit at Gallery 1988 (East) in Los Angeles. Each piece depicts crowds with a pop culture spin and some of the prints are lenticular. See:

And that, friends, is how you make the face melting scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark adorable. I didn’t even know it was possible.

The illustrations in the show feature a wide variety of franchises so there’s probably at least one that will catch your fancy. Aliens, The Avengers, Dawn of the Dead, Kill Bill – they’re all part of the show and so are many more. Prints are available in sizes ranging from 5 inches by 5 inches to 16 inches by 20 inches. One of the most interesting pieces is a whopping 9.5 feet long. You read the number correctly. The supersized art is based on Snowpiercer. Watch a flyover:

The Mass Hysteria show is at Gallery 1988 (East) through February 28th. Don’t panic if you’re not able to visit the gallery! Gallery 1988 has prints available online. I recommend browsing the selection soon though because many of the prints have already sold out.

Which crowd scene do you like best? Let us know in the comments.
