Could Wolverine’s Claws Really Fit in His Body?

Who hasn’t seen the X-Person known as Wolverine and not wanted his killer adamantium-covered claws? They are nearly indestructible, incredibly sharp and so long that…wait. Wolverine’s claws are too long for his body! I can prove it with anatomy.

In my latest Because Science, I’m taking a closer look at the mutant formerly known as James Howlett, because something has been bothering me about his skeleton ever since we glimpsed it in X-Men. If you look closely at the x-rays of his body shown in the film, his claws are too long—he shouldn’t be able to bend his wrists. (And we frequently see him doing so!) In other Wolverine movies, the x-rays are different. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he shouldn’t be able to bend his wrists while brandishing his blades! Something must be done here. Science can sort it out.

Based on human proportions and anatomy, there is a way that Logan could fit his claws perfectly inside his forearms: he must get bigger. And depending on how long Wolverine’s claws actually are (depending on the canon you want to go with), he has to get a lot bigger. To find out how big an anatomically correct Wolverine would be, check out my latest episode above!
