Update October 9, 2017:
Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Phil Klemmer shared details about Matt Ryan’s Constantine upcoming appearance in season three with The Hollywood Reporter. Constantine will be appearing in a two-episode arc. Klemmer said he’s been trying to get Ryan on the show since season one, and now it’s finally worked out. The demonologist will have a role in episodes nine and 10.
Klemmer explained what Constantine will be up to: “His appearance in episode 310 will involve the following: a revisiting of Arrow season four and the events following that seasonâs finale episode; a confrontation with this seasonâs Big Bad on Legends–the name weâve only heard whispered until now Mallus; some hot sex–something that has been in short supply on the Waverider thus far in season three; and Damien Darhk (Neil McDonough), because how can you do an episode about dark magic and not have Damien Darhk?”
After NBC canceled Constantine, Matt Ryan made a special “one time only” guest appearance as John Constantine during Arrow‘s fourth season. But now, Constantine is making another live-action comeback on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Via ComicBook.com, Ryan will reprise his role as Constantine during the third season of Legends of Tomorrow. The news about the Constantine appearance came from Legends showrunner Phil Klemmer, who told Rotten Tomatoes that Constantine will perform an exorcism on the show.
It’s possible that Ryan’s guest appearance will somehow tie into the upcoming Constantine animated series. The first preview from that series was released at New York Comic Con, and it features John Constantine pulling one of his classic cons on a group of demons. Watch:
But what will bring John Constantine into the orbit of the Legends? It’s been hinted that the new season will feature a supernatural threat, which would definitely be in Constantine’s wheelhouse. And if Constantine is being called upon to perform an exorcism, it may be a member of the team who is possessed by a demon.
There is also a strong link between Constantine and Sara Lance, since he helped her body reunite with her soul to complete her resurrection. We wouldn’t be shocked at all if Sara raises the possibility of doing the same thing for her sister, Laurel Lance. Considering that Katie Cassidy is once again a series regular on Arrow, Laurel’s return is not entirely out of the question.
It’s currently unknown when Constantine will appear on Legends of Tomorrow, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for him and his surly attitude.
